Volta is redesigning the iconic former Reuters building at Great Sutton Street with cutting edge, sustainable technology to create a state-of-the-art, low latency data center that will cater to Central London businesses. Volta is a specialist developer and operator of purpose designed data centers with a mission to deliver ultra-fast, resilient connectivity to users of latency-sensitive services in the financial, media and content industries.
The 45,000 square foot data center will be live beginning in January 2013, following the renovation which will include installing the latest and most energy efficient equipment and be built to the highest industry standards. Volta has also designed the center to use 33kv from two separate substations to provide a level of resilience that no other central London data center can match. Inside, the Great Sutton Street Site will provide a variety of scalable options for its clients including single or multiple racks of 4kW and up or private cages from 50kW.
A key benefit to this location is the wide range of available connectivity services available from world leading carriers. Proximity hosting offers ultra-low latency access to key trading venues. Customers can use a carrier such as Abovenet, BT, Cable & Wireless, Colt, EU Networks, Verizon and Geo UK, or select their own carrier. No matter the carrier, Volta Great Sutton Street is located to provide sub-millisecond latency for financial services in the city, and new media and content providers in Shoreditch and the West End.
Matthew Dent, Chief Executive of Volta said, “The opportunity to invest in continuing the legacy of the Great Sutton Street data center building, which has provided services since 1986, is an exciting prospect. We will completely refurbish the building, installing the latest and most energy efficient equipment. This unique opportunity will provide a much needed service to the financial, media and content industries of Central London.”
Volta has announced that Colo-X will be the sole agent for Great Sutton Street. Colo-X, specialist agents for data centers, colocation, managed hosting and related services, will work with Volta to build the marketplace within the facility. Colo-X has been an independent agent for the retail colocation market for over 13 years and through its experience with UK data center market, will help companies find their optimal data center solution at Volta Great Sutton Street.
By bringing the first new data center to London in a decade, Volta plans to set the standard in technology and sustainability moving forward. As the industry continues to grow, Volta will continue evolving in its data center locations and services.
