Adding to its already impressive repertoire of fiber-based media solutions, leading network infrastructure and services provider TeliaSonera International Carrier (TSIC) recently partnered with Hibernia Media to form the world’s largest, 100% QoS fiber-based media network.
Both organizations have extensive experience in providing infrastructure and services to support major media network providers. TSIC recently supported 13 broadcasters to bring coverage of the 2012 London Olympics Games to billions of viewers around the world. The organization’s international fiber network also currently supports the broadcasting of other live sporting events, including Wimbledon and National Hockey League (NHL) games.
Hibernia’s purchase of TSIC’s MediaConnect business combines TSIC’s robust fiber backbone with its suite of back-office capabilities (Dedicated Use Services, Occasional Use Live Feeds, Occasional Use Events and StudioConnect Services), providing the world’s leading media organizations with a video-enabled fiber network and seamless accessibility to content origination, aggregation, and distribution channels. The acquisition also gives sports fans around the world high-quality access to their favorite international sports programming, network programming, news segments, and global events.
“Combining our assets with the Hibernia Media platform creates enhanced opportunities for both companies,” explains Erik Hallberg, President of TeliaSonera International Carrier. “With more than five years of investments into the TeliaSonera International Carrier media business combined with Hibernia Media’s extensive fiber system the new entity will provide greater reach and a broader set of highly managed network services uniquely capable of leveraging transport infrastructure to create global media solutions.”
