BridgePoint Technologies’ Vice President and COO Laura Barker, and Lead Creative Brian Dausman volunteered to sit on the ‘Real World Advice From Real World Professionals’ career panel organized by the Department of Computer Science’s Alumni Council at Northern Illinois University on October 23. The panel was led by NIU CSAC Alumni Board Member and CME Group Director of Enterprise Architecture, Steve Goldman, and was held in the Sky Room of NIU’s Holmes Student Center.
As alumni of the university, both Ms. Barker and Mr. Dausman were honored to be able to share their technical expertise with NIU students as well as fellow technology professionals. Ms. Barker earned her degree in Computer Science while Mr. Dausman graduated NIU with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Design and Media, later transitioning into several Web Designer roles.
Ms. Barker utilizes both her technical expertise and business savvy to assist in defining the growth strategies for
BridgePoint – and ensuring the structure is in place to support it. Mr. Dausman’s expertise spans website design and deployment, as well as SharePoint sites and multiple types of mobile applications. In his current role with BridgePoint Technologies, he works directly with Developers and end-users to design and implement master pages, scripting and wireframes.
Featuring real-world experts, the educational panel was geared to provide real-world advice to future Northern grads. It also proved to be a great way for students embarking on their careers as Web Designers and IT professionals to realize what exactly is expected of them when entering the work force, and what to anticipate post-graduation.
