‘Tis the season for giving thanks. Many – including business execs and decision makers – are taking this time to reflect on what they are most grateful for this holiday season. Among the many things businesses should be counting their blessings for this holiday season is Carrier Ethernet.
Here are 10 reasons why:
- Ubiquity and simplicity: Most companies today are well-aware of Ethernet due to its simplicity and proven performance in the LAN. They are familiar with the capabilities of Ethernet networks and, because of this, look to extend their existing service to cover wide area and multi-site networks.
- High performance and bandwidth: Channel Partners’ “Ethernet Services & The Channel: State of the Market 2013” report shows that Carrier Ethernet is becoming a must-have option for meeting expanding bandwidth demands in a cost-effective manner.

DAS Provides Fast, Reliable Wireless Service Across 7 Million Square Feet of Marketplace
CORNING, NY–(Marketwired – Nov 19, 2013) - Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW) today announced that its distributed antenna system (DAS) has been installed at AmericasMart®Atlanta to help deliver improved wireless coverage, capacity and data speeds for exhibitors and guests.
“Our investment in innovative technology solutions like the Corning DAS speaks to our commitment to doing whatever is necessary to ensure our merchants’ success,” said Jeff Portman, president and chief operating officer, AmericasMart Atlanta. “The DAS allows us to provide AmericasMart attendees the ability to do business without having to worry about slow data speeds or spotty voice coverage.”
Comprised of nearly 1,300 antennas and more than 250 fiber-fed remotes, the DAS enhances cellular coverage during high-traffic events when thousands of people might be trying to access the network simultaneously.
“Corning is excited to provide the DAS to AmericasMart Atlanta, the nation’s premier wholesale trade center,” said Mike O’Day, vice president, Optical Connectivity Solutions, Corning. “We’re continuing to see a growing demand for indoor cellular systems not only from wireless operators, but also from organizations like AmericasMart, who want to ensure their customers receive the best service possible. Our DAS addresses the needs of each of these groups.”
AmericasMart Atlanta is the world’s only global wholesale marketplace, containing 7 million square feet of space across three buildings and 15 floors, including showrooms and exhibit halls. The DAS was installed by H&M NetWorks, one of the leading national network design and integration providers, in just 12 weeks while the AmericasMart remained open for business
The solution provides visitors to AmericasMart Atlanta’s largest events with the ability to make calls and seamlessly use their smartphones, tablets and devices to access the Web, send texts, upload photos and videos — all while staying connected at significantly increased speeds. Those events include AmericasMart Atlanta’s January markets and the March Atlanta Spring Gift, Home Furnishings & Holiday Market®.

TeliaSonera International Carrier (TSIC) recently announced the completion of its major network expansion in North America to deliver greater reach, more diversity and higher performance to its customers. The announcement was made at the TSIC press conference during Dreamforce ’13 in San Francisco, CA. Media and analysts converged in the Hampton Room of the Westin St. Francis, joining TSIC President Erik Hallberg; Ivo Pascucci, Regional Director, Americas; and Rickard Bäcklin, Marketing Director, as well as virtual attendees who participated via Webex.
Mr. Hallberg also participated on a panel at the Dreamforce event on Tuesday, November 19th. The session, entitled ‘Communications Industry Kickoff: The New Communications Customer’, explored the current state of the industry as well as the evolving roles of operators as they adapt to meet the ever-changing needs and expectations of today’s customers.
The project is the company’s largest network build-out in the Americas since its original U.S. fiber investment in 2000. Building on its success of landing 50 new, large-scale customers in 2013 alone, TSIC added 11,500 miles of fiber (18,400 km) to its already expansive global backbone, further strengthening its commitment and ability to provide customers with high performance and business critical connectivity. In addition to TSIC’s increased reach in the U.S., the build-out also provides customers with a diverse connection into the rapidly growing region of South America with Points of Presence (PoPs) in Boca Raton, Jacksonville and Miami. The completion of this network expansion will extend TSIC’s reach to 32 American cities and 44 Points of Presence (PoPs) by December 31, 2014.
As a ‘top five’ carrier in the Americas, TSIC focuses extensive resources to support the performance needs of its American clients. Internet intelligence authority Renesys ranks TSIC as one of the top two global IP backbone providers. The company owns and operates its own network across Europe, North America and Asia. TSIC leverages its vast global fiber backbone with over 200 PoPs worldwide to provide its customers with a scalable and secure network, enhanced quality of service and access to anything, anywhere.
