EdgeConneX®, along with Comcast and GREATER MSP (Minneapolis Saint Paul Regional Economic Development Partnership), have announced a partnership that will enable business and consumer users in the greater Minneapolis-St.Paul region to get local and secure access to Internet content and cloud services with superior performance. A specialist in global infrastructure solutions at the edge of the network, EdgeConneX is now working with both of these companies to bring faster, more resilient cloud and Internet access via its new Minneapolis Edge Data Center® (EDC).
“GREATER MSP is enthusiastic about welcoming EdgeConneX into the Minneapolis–St. Paul region, and we look forward to the technological advancements that their Edge Data Center will bring our community of business and consumer users. The EdgeConneX Minneapolis facility is one of many efforts we have to further enrich our region’s infrastructure and attract businesses,” said Gene Goddard, director of business investment for GREATER MSP, in a recent release.
Jeff Freyer, regional vice president, Comcast Twin Cities, added, “At Comcast, we are committed to bringing consumers more of the content they love at the fastest speeds. Partnering with EdgeConneX allows us to continue innovating in the Twin Cities and providing our customers with the most reliable, secure and seamless online experience in the market.”
Today’s applications all require performance that traditional Internet and network architectures simply can no longer support. With cloud traffic increasing at a prodigious rate — Cisco’s® 2014-2019 Global Cloud Index (GCI) expects it to consume 83 percent of all data center traffic by 2019 — the resulting burst in traffic to and from data centers is driving the need to distribute cloud infrastructure to more locations at the edge of the network. This has necessitated a more highly distributed network much closer in proximity to end-users, a model that will meet performance and security requirements of both consumers and enterprises, while also driving down costs.
EdgeConneX’s goal is to enable the “Internet of Everywhere.” To achieve this, the company has created purpose-built, state-of-the-art facilities in as many markets across a region as possible; thus extending the Internet’s edge as close to enterprises and end-users as possible. To date, there have been 23 EDCs built by EdgeConneX across the U.S. to support the ever-growing demand for bandwidth-intensive content and cloud applications.
