While we are all practicing social distancing, it’s also a good time to leverage great resources, skills and unused talents that you may have. There are many free resources and opportunities offered on the Internet including virtual museum tours, live video-cams at zoos and more. If you’re looking to expand your entertainment and learning outlets then we have these suggestions for you:
- Training! Ever want to learn how to do pivot tables in Excel or what network engineers really do? There are a ton of free training programs being offered nearly everywhere you look. Whether it’s about the industry, learning new skills, other – now is a great time to button up and gain new skills and insights.
- Now is your chance to read and listen to books! Audible has a strong selection primarily for young ones through Teens – but if you want the classics, they are here too. And many libraries are staying open virtually with access to digital resources. It’s a great opportunity to get your reading/listening on.
- If you have others around you, play card games and board games – if you don’t – use video to play board games (you can each move the pieces as the others take their turn) – it’s fun, give it a try.
- Remember those ‘adult’ coloring books that was such the rage years ago? Time to dig them up! Knit, crochet and revisit lacramay.
- Listening to music is such a blessing – tons of people are eager to share. Consider this, Neil Diamond did a remake on Sweet Caroline to encourage washing hands “hands, washing hands…”
- Write and journal your thoughts/experiences – it will be a great read in years to come
- Take walks, go to dog parks (with your dog preferably), if the weather is nice, sit outside, the sun will do you good.
- Organize and clean – those closets are stocked with stuff, do you even know what’s in there?
- Get creative with your pantry and experiment with cooking things you haven’t had the time to do before – you could surprise yourself (or just chuck it!)
- Avoid too much news – it will make you sad, angry and anxious. Dedicating specific blocks of time to catch up will help you focus and cope a lot better.
