EdgeConneX® has adopted the technical and operational standards defined by Open-IX (OIX), recently entering a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the association to certify its Houston, TX Edge Data Center™ (EDC). The organization is one of the first providers to implement the OIX standards required by today’s content delivery networks and service providers, joining the likes of LINX, AMS-IX, Digital Realty, DuPont Fabros, and Raging Wire. EdgeConneX also plans to certify its additional EDCs in Denver, Phoenix, Salt Lake City and Las Vegas by the end of Q1 2014.
“EdgeConneX is an example of the caliber of companies that have begun to engage the Open-IX Association to become data center certified,” says Dan Golding, Vice Chair of Open-IX. “It is exciting to be part of a pivotal movement across the industry, establishing technical and operational standards that leading and emerging companies are eager to adopt.”
The Open-IX Association was formed by a neutral body of volunteers with the common goal of promoting better standards across connectivity, resiliency, interconnect, security and cost for data center interconnection and Internet exchanges in North America. By creating a new network of member-governed Internet Exchange Points (IXPs) housed in multiple neutral data center facilities, OIX allows participants to interact and exchange content in a very cost-effective manner.
Featuring 500kW utility power (expandable to 2MW) as well as available connectivity to multiple network providers including Zayo, Alpheus and Level 3, EdgeConneX’s Houston facility is purpose-built to support and deliver high-bandwidth solutions required by today’s content providers and Content Delivery Networks (CDNs). The facility is currently accepting colocation customers.
EdgeConneX optimizes content delivery by strategically locating its Edge Data Centers as close as possible to the end-users’ point of access. By maintaining close proximity to their infrastructure, end-users experience higher performance and lower latency content delivery to any device, anywhere.
