Global Capacity: Reflecting on a Prosperous 2014

Global Capacity2014 was successful and game-changing for leading connectivity as a service company Global Capacity, who certainly left its mark on the global data connectivity market this year.  Besides completing a major acquisition, the company ended 2014 with a successful track record of product enhancements, customer wins, network reach and service offering expansions, multiple industry awards and recognitions, and several strategic new partners.

Here are some highlights from Global Capacity’s 2014:

Transformational Acquisition

On September 8, Global Capacity made headlines when it announced a definitive agreement to acquire MegaPath’s Network Services business unit.  Merging Global Capacity and MegaPath’s combined network and automation systems, the transaction created a $300 million company uniquely positioned to change and ease how businesses and service providers buy data network connectivity.  Global Capacity now enables efficient, cost-effective fulfillment of connectivity solutions to over 14 million businesses across the U.S.

The purchase also expanded and enhanced Global Capacity’s award-winning One Marketplace platform.  The platform automates more than 70% of orders from design to bill and leverages 41 Points of Presence (PoPs), 2,007 Central Offices (COs) and over 4,500 last-mile network interconnections to deliver connectivity to over 20,000 business and 400+ application service providers, telecommunication carriers, managed service providers and system integrator customers.    The acquisition was officially finalized January 6, 2015.

Global & Domestic Expansion

Global Capacity also added four new network PoPs across the U.S. to improve access for both customers and suppliers.  On January 15, the provider expanded into Ashburn, VA, opening a new One Marketplace PoP in Equinix’s DC6 data center.  Then, on March 25, the company opened another One Marketplace PoP in Minneapolis, MN at 511 11th Avenue South.  Global Capacity also extended its reach into Denver and Dallas, installing PoPs in both locations to meet growing demand for Competitive Ethernet Connectivity as well as cost-effective access to application and content ecosystems.

Global Capacity also expanded its international pricing capabilities in 2014 by expanding into two key markets.  On March 18, the company expanded its One Marketplace network reach in the U.K., providing competitive network connectivity options to customers in London and throughout the United Kingdom. Global Capacity followed-up its U.K. release by announcing the availability of competitive, automated network pricing to locations throughout Canada on May 13.

New Partnerships & Product Enhancements

Building on its 2013 partnerships with Equinix and Amazon Web Services (AWS), in 2014, Global Capacity saw the formation of two strategic partnerships – one with INDATEL and another with the National Cable Television Cooperative, Inc. (NCTC).  Global Capacity delivers Ethernet connectivity to INDATEL, while providing NCTC with competitive network solutions to rural cable and video operators.

In March, Global Capacity also unveiled a major Ethernet enhancement to LATTIS, the key tariff database for carriers and service providers.  In addition to adding new Ethernet tariff rates for E-LINE and E-LAN from ILECs and operators, the company also improved the LATTIS user interface for E-LAN / E-LINE pricing functionality.

Award-Winning Year

2014 was the year of industry award wins and recognitions for Global Capacity as well.  The company received TMC’s Communications Solutions Product of the Year prize and its One Marketplace Ethernet Service was honored with Metro Connect’s award for Best Service Innovation.  Furthermore, Global Capacity was recognized alongside network provider Overture with the 2014 GTB Innovation Award for Wholesale Service Innovation.  It also earned industry recognition as a finalist for Light Reading’s 2014 Leading Lights Company of the Year Award as well as Pipeline Innovation Awards award for Most Innovative Service Provider.
