EdgeConneXToday’s competitive Over-The-Top (OTT) video marketplace, combined with sky-high consumer expectations, is putting more pressure than ever on Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to offer fast and reliable video transmissions to customers.

For ISPs, quality of experience metrics must, therefore, be top of mind when assessing whether to partner with a particular network infrastructure provider. These metrics, after all, are vital for determining whether a company has the ability to deliver on par with standards.

EdgeConneX, a provider of infrastructure solutions at the edge of the network, is one company that is capable of delivering up to such standards, and it has the metrics to prove it. These can be found in a new white paper from Conviva.

In its white paper, Conviva measured video data streams for several publishers that utilized EdgeConneX-enabled services to deliver video transmissions for an ISP located out of San Diego. Conviva compared this data to a peer network that did not use EdgeConneX as a control group.

As for the results? Conviva found that streams which leveraged EdgeConneX’s infrastructure reported improved rebuffering rates—which compare overall time spent loading versus playing—of between 12 to 20 percent.

This is extremely significant when considering the stakes at hand; according to Conviva, just a 1 percent increase in interruption yields a 14-minute reduction in audience engagement per each viewing session. EdgeConneX offers an interruption rate that is nearly 30 percent lower than its competitors.

“Conviva’s analysis, examining EdgeConneX-enabled streams on its Global Intelligence Network, serves to quantify and authenticate the improvement that is a result of our localization model,” explained EdgeConneX CEO Randy Brouckman following the release of the white paper.
