GTT Communications, Inc. (NYSE: GTT) has announced that it has increased its presence in the Asia-Pacific region with the expansion of its Point of Presence (PoP) in Sydney, Australia. This network deployment allows GTT to better serve multinational enterprises doing business in Australia by providing a comprehensive suite of wide area networking EtherCloud® services, Internet services and managed services in addition to its previously established voice offerings.
The new Sydney PoP allows GTT to extend the reach of their global, Tier 1 IP network, which is ranked in top five worldwide. The lowest latency route between Australia and the United States, the site interconnects to multiple, diverse cable systems in the region to ensure network redundancy and high performance connectivity.
As the company’s fifth PoP in the Asia-Pacific region, the GTT Sydney expansion corresponds with significant growth in internet traffic throughout the region’s growing global business sector. Asia-Pacific was recently predicted to lead the world in business and IP traffic by 2019 according to the Cisco® Visual Networking Index research report. Australia is forecast to experience exponential growth in Internet usage and unforeseen levels of hyperconnectivity. The research also predicts huge increases in mobile usage, the number of connected devices, a surge in the consumption of data per capita and video consumption. IP traffic in Australia, Cisco predicts, will increase three-fold by 2019, with a compound annual growth rate of 22 percent.
“This PoP expansion is a significant and strategic addition to the GTT network,” said Rick Calder, GTT president and CEO. “Our increased presence in Sydney provides our clients doing business in the region with improved connectivity and performance through our comprehensive suite of cloud networking services.”
