Northern Virginia remains the most active data center market in the world, with investment totaling more than $20 billion in 2017, and surpassing the volume for the three previous years combined. Loudoun County officials assert that up to 70 percent of the world’s Internet traffic passes through that county alone. Industry experts attribute the region’s popularity to such factors as proximity to the federal government, high density of fiber, a business-friendly environment, rare natural disaster occurrence and low commercial electricity rates.

Recently, Infomart Data Centers completed a new data center suite at its Ashburn facility. The national carrier-neutral data center provider’s new suite is the first of six 10,000-square-foot suites, each with power capacity of up to 3 MW. When completed, the facility will bring up to 18 MW of premium capacity to the Northern Virginia market. The wholesale facility provides the flexibility and security necessary to serve the needs of cloud and IT service companies, multinational and domestic enterprises, federal agencies and systems integrators.

“We are excited to announce that we’re open for business in Northern Virginia,” said Dan Ephraim, Vice President of Infomart, about the development. “We’ve worked quickly to bring an industry-leading facility to market and consider today the beginning of our commitment to be a leading provider in Northern Virginia.”

Infomart Ashburn has storied history. The facility once served as the home of AOL’s email platform and Infomart has invested in a complete rehabilitation of the its infrastructure and interior. Infomart Ashburn offers industry-leading mechanical and electrical resiliency, and also meets FISMA, NIST, DIACAP, NISPOM and ICD 705 government compliance mandates.

Infomart Ashburn provides true 2N+1 IT critical power redundancy, allowing for concurrent maintenance without interruption.  Featuring chilled water systems designed to operate at maximum efficiency within the regional climate, hot aisle containment, and ceiling and cold wall plenum, the facility will also deliver real-time PUE metrics as well as mechanical and electrical infrastructure information through a Building Management System (BMS). This will allow Infomart to provide clients with maximum control and performance transparency.

Infomart Ashburn has redundant Meet-Me-Rooms. Moreover, as a carrier-neutral provider, it’s connected to a fiber ring providing access to more than 60 data centers throughout the region. Infomart also anticipates the facility will achieve multiple certifications, including SSAE 16 Type I, SSAE 16 SOC 2 Type II, PCI DSS, HIPAA/HITECH, ISO 27001, and the Uptime Institute’s Management & Operations. Physical security features at Infomart Ashburn include berms, vehicle arresting cables, perimeter fencing, and a gated entrance.
