Aqua Comms Limited has announced a new partnership with PCCW Global, the international operating division of Hong Kong’s leading telecommunications service provider, HKT. The partnership will allow HKT to use Aqua Comms’ brand new subsea transatlantic fiber cable network, America Europe Connect (AEConnect). In doing so, Aqua Comms will provide PCCW with additional route diversity between its New York and London Points of Presence (PoPs). It’s a low latency and high-capacity connectivity solution that will also allow PCCW to future-proof against rising bandwidth requirements.
“We are confident that the AEConnect cable system provides the upward scalability and performance necessary to satisfy our business objectives,” explained Senior Vice President of Vendor Management at PCCW Global Jordick Wong following the announcement.
Here’s why:
AEConnect utilizes the latest innovative optical technologies to provide more than 52 Tbps of capacity as well as speeds of 130 x 100 Gbps per fiber pair. It’s one of the first subsea cables built between New York City and London in almost 15 years, and was specifically designed to meet the rising bandwidth requirements that global data centers, carriers, financial services organizations, cloud-based networks and content providers currently require.
AEConnect is the most secure transatlantic cable network in existence, and it’s also well-equipped for growth as it contains built-in stubbed branching units for future landings. What’s more, AEConnect is one of the lowest-latency routes on record as it is capable of crossing the Atlantic at a speed of just 53.9 milliseconds. This is particularly important when considering that, according to TeleGeography, transatlantic data traffic will grow at a CAGR of 41 percent between now and 2021. With this in mind, AEConnect is bound to have a major impact for PCCW and for countless other organizations that are looking to improve intercontinental connectivity.
