Regional demand for distributed data processing and retail colocation continues to spike in Portland’s data center market, prompting some data center providers to plan for future growth and expansion.

Infomart Data Centers, for instance, has announced that its longtime tenant Opus Interactive has completed a 90 kW expansion at its Portland facility after generating strong year-over-year (YoY) growth.

“We’re proud to say we’ve been the retail provider at Infomart’s Hillsboro facility for five years, and we’re excited to be expanding our footprint once again. The Opus team has spent over 20 years honing a mix of purpose-built cloud and colocation solutions that we deliver from state-of-the-art facilities,” stated Opus Interactive CEO Shannon Hulbert. “The expansion enables us to continue the 25 percent YoY growth trajectory we’re on, and allows us to offer our customers space inside a world-class facility that delivers not only reliable power and 24×7 security, but also unprecedented levels of efficiency and sustainability.”

Hulbert also spoke to the company’s strategic location.

“Additionally, as demand for global connectivity continues to increase amongst our customers, being in a facility with access to Asia-Pacific submarine cables is key,” Hulbert added.

With a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.16 in full economization mode, a 99 percent efficient Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS), 100 percent aisle containment and natural cooling for at least 70 percent of the year, Infomart Portland is one of the world’s most efficient data centers. Infomart Portland is also the first data center in Oregon and among a few in the nation to hold LEED Platinum certification, while boasting Uptime Institute’s Management & Operations (M&O) “Stamp of Approval and Efficient IT Certification.

“Opus Interactive’s latest expansion within Infomart Portland is a testament to Infomart’s service mindset as well as the region’s continued growth, largely thanks to its renewable and cost-effective power access, tax incentives, technical workforce, and ascending position as the new ‘digital gateway’ to Asia Pacific,” stated John Sheputis, President, Infomart Data Centers. “We look forward to continuing our partnership with Opus and serving as the company’s trusted wholesale data center partner as they embark on their next stage of growth.”
