ChayoraAn agreement has been reached between Chayora Holdings Limited and Standard Chartered Bank Principal Finance Real Estate (“SCB PFRE”), that will make SCB PFRE, a unit of Standard Chartered PLC (LONDON: STAN), the lead institutional investor in Chayora, a Hong Kong-based developer of large-scale, world-class designed and highly scalable data center parks.

With the new agreement, SCB PFRE will secure a direct equity stake of up to 19.5 percent in Chayora Holdings Limited, committing $73 million USD. The company will also provide an additional amount of substantial long-term equity for the future anchor data centers that Chayora is planning to construct on its Hangzhou and Tianjin campuses. In turn, this will produce matching equity from additional strategic partners in China that are working with Chayora to fund these projects.

An exciting partnership that will supplement Chayora’s unique data center campus-based platform and its resilient, energy-efficient Chinese data centers with capital funding, market expertise and a wealth of global client relationships, Chayora’s international customers will also benefit from Standard Chartered’s selection of global-to-China and cross border center financing solutions.

So, why is SCB PFRE investing so heavily in Chayora? As Managing Director and Global Head of Principal Finance Real Estate of Standard Chartered Bank, Brian Chinappi, explained, China is now transitioning from an investment- and manufacturing-based economy to one that is consumption- and service-based. The scalable, world-class data center infrastructure provided by Chayora is playing a key part in that transition, as it is facilitating the provisioning of crucial Web-based services like cloud offerings, banking and e-commerce.

“We believe that Chayora’s core competence of design capability, power, land and permitting solutions and its world-class, highly experienced management team will make it one of the leading data center solution providers in China,” Chinappi said.

Chayora develops and operates high-performance data centers for clients on five to 15-year contracts at its strategically located campuses. It is known for offering fully transparent contracts and licenses, as well as competitive and green power solutions.
