Aqua Comms, a global leader in subsea connectivity, is taking its network capabilities to the next level by activating a new fibre pair on its AEC-1 subsea cable system, which connects New York, Dublin, and London. This latest investment comes at a crucial time, as the demand for high-bandwidth connectivity continues to surge, driven by the increasing need for fast, reliable data transfer across the globe.
What sets this fibre pair apart is its focus on sustainability. Aqua Comms has integrated advanced energy-efficient technologies like Ciena’s GeoMesh Extreme and WaveLogic 5 Extreme coherent optics to optimize performance while significantly cutting down on power consumption per terabit of data. This not only enhances capacity but also supports the company’s commitment to minimizing its environmental footprint.
Looking ahead, Aqua Comms is preparing to deploy Ciena’s WaveLogic 6 Extreme – the industry’s first 1.6 Tb/s coherent optic solution – which is expected to deliver more than a 50% reduction in energy consumption compared to previous technologies. This forward-thinking approach aligns with the company’s goal of creating a greener, more sustainable trans-Atlantic network.
