STAVANGER, NORWAY – September 21, 2023 – Tampnet, owner and operator of the world’s largest offshore telecommunications network, announced that the company’s CTO of Infrastructure and Head of External Affairs, Anders Tysdal, will present at Datacloud ESG Summit 2023 on September 27, 2023, in Oslo, Norway. The discussion will be co-presented with Graham Medhurst, Operations Manager at Cecon Contracting AS, leading the cable installation project. This project has been commissioned to provide reliable backhaul and direct access to key carbon neutral data centres in the Nordics. The Norfest routes will complement Tampnet’s existing network, facilitating connectivity between the UK and Europe via the Nordics, with a 48 fibre-pair cable stretching 750km.

Anders’ and Graham’s presentation, titled “Connectivity with a conscience: The sustainability strategy behind Norfest,” will share insights into Tampnet’s Norfest sustainability methodology, providing the audience with insights into how the company is addressing the crucial backhaul and connectivity needs of the region through the Norfest route. Throughout the design, engineering and installation process, this project has had a strong focus on minimizing environmental and social impact. The presentation will break down the strategic and technical milestones involved in building a subsea network connecting one of the greenest markets in the world to a network of data centres in Norway and Sweden.

Anders Tysdal joined Tampnet as the Chief Technology Officer in 2007, when the company was in its infancy. Since then, he has led the strategic and technical development and international expansion of the subsea fibre, microwave, and mobile network infrastructure in the North Sea and the Gulf of Mexico, as well as initiating business development efforts in several other territories. Anders also led the team, who, in 2013, successfully deployed the world’s first commercial offshore 4G/LTE network for the oil and gas industry. He has been instrumental in developing the company from a small, local player to the world´s largest offshore telecommunications service provider. Anders has been a key part of initiating, executing, and closing several large acquisitions to grow the company, as well as making sure that Tampnet´s true value has been reflected in three major ownership transitions. Currently, Anders is leading the work to maintain and expand Tampnet’s large offshore networks globally and deploy modern and innovative offshore solutions and infrastructure in new regions of the world. He holds a master’s degree in telecommunications from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim.

Graham Medhurst started his oilfield career in 1989 as a Field Engineer with Schlumberger, before specializing in subsea projects and marine operations. He has gained international experience with Chevron, Technip and Aker Solutions in a variety of positions including Senior Project Manager, Offshore Manager and Operations Director.  Graham joined Cecon in 2018 and has led its transition from an installation contractor predominantly in the oil & gas space into the offshore renewables & subsea telecoms markets.
