An exciting data center project is developing north of the Arctic Circle at the hydro power hub of Porjus in Jokkmokk, Sweden. The future Tier III+ design colocation data center, Etix Jokkmokk #1, is a joint effort between Etix Everywhere and ArcticSites.
“This is a top-notch quality data center design that together with the redundant 100 percent renewable power supply and multiple fiber redundancy in Porjus makes this one of Sweden’s most powerful colocation data centers,” stated Jörgen Venot, Senior Vice President for Northern Countries of Etix Everywhere.
As of now, the project is in the pre-ordering phase. Construction will start when the facility reaches a minimum level of pre-ordered capacity. Once the necessary pre-ordering volume is reached, the company will need only six weeks to deploy the data center.
“We can start the operation at a pre-ordering volume around a few hundred kVA, which indicates the advantageous conditions found in the Jokkmokk area,” Mr. Venot added.
Etix Jokkmokk #1 will offer highly-developed fiber connectivity, which will be of great benefit to both local and international customers. Customers will also benefit from 24/7/365 monitoring from the Luxembourg Network Operations Center (NOC), and the latest artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. The facility will also feature perimeter-security technology from Etix Labs, which is Etix Everywhere’s R&D arm.
As ArcticSites Director Jonas Sukloed explained, the project will help businesses reduce power and support their digital transformation efforts.
“As a rule of thumb, an indirect free cooling design sharply reduces power consumption, and together with the local connectivity, will grant companies and organizations with a highly competitive infrastructure to support their digital transformation in Sweden,” Sukloed said. “On top of this, the expected uptime increases significantly compared to an ordinary server room.”
Jokkmokk Mayor Robert Bernhardsson believes that the project will create a large number of work opportunities, in the form of managed and added value services.
“It means boosting business for regional IT companies and a renewed dynamism for the local ICT ecosystem, empowering all types of companies in their digital transformation,” Bernhardsson stated.
Ultimately, the new data center will diversify the Swedish colocation market, offering customers cutting-edge infrastructure that can meet the highest standards on the market.
