The data center industry is changing fast and the Northern Virginia regional market is no exception. Since the earliest days of the Internet, Northern Virginia has been at the epicenter of IT growth. Northern Virginia is considered the busiest Internet intersection and largest data center market in the U.S. Up to 70 percent of worldwide Internet traffic travels through MAE-East (Metropolitan Area Exchange East) in Ashburn, Virginia, and the market is poised for more growth.
Infomart Data Centers recently announced completion of the first of six new data center suites in Ashburn, Virginia, which will bring a total of up to 18 MW of premium capacity to the Northern Virginia market. The move comes as the national wholesale carrier-neutral data center provider appointed data center executive Donough Roche as its new Chief Operating Officer. The new position was created to support Infomart’s growth strategy in Ashburn, Silicon Valley, and Hillsboro, Oregon.
“Donough brings a wealth of operational experience to Infomart that will provide the foundation to enable us to achieve our strategic goals,” said Phil Koen, interim Chief Executive Officer and a member of Infomart’s board of directors, about Mr. Roche’s appointment to COO. “We are excited to have someone of his caliber join the company to help manage our growth as we ramp up the capacity we can offer to clients in each of our existing markets — Ashburn, Silicon Valley, and Hillsboro.”
Mr. Roche, who will oversee operations, construction and development, and sales across all of the company’s facilities, reporting to Mr. Koen, has held a variety of positions in the data center sector over the past two decades. Prior to Infomart, he served as Principal of Datacentrs.com, a technical and business consulting firm serving the global data center market. Mr. Roche also led the Global Sales Engineering team at Digital Realty where he spent nine years. Additionally, he has operating, sales and engineering experience from prior roles at Lee Technologies, Citibank and Verizon/MCI.
