As data networks become an increasingly critical component of international enterprises, carriers are expanding their portfolio of IP VPN and Ethernet wide area network (WAN) service offerings and their geographic coverage. However, new data from TeleGeography’s Global Enterprise Networks Research Service reveal that on-net service coverage varies widely by technology and geography.
IP VPN remained the most ubiquitous WAN service globally in 2014, with 5,170 instances of carriers offering on-net service in the 2,891 cities covered in the study. Ethernet over MPLS(EoMPLS), the most widely offered Ethernet point-to-point technology, was next, with 3,431 instances of on-net service, followed by Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) and EVPN, with 3,175 and 3,020, respectively.
