How a New IXP Will Transform Long Island Connectivity
1025Connect, Long Island’s premier network-neutral Meet-Me Room for network interconnection and colocation, has added DE-CIX, a carrier and data center-neutral Internet Exchange operator with multiple platforms across the U.S., including a distributed platform across major carrier hotels and data centers throughout the New York-New Jersey metro market and an exchange throughout the Dallas, TX metro market. DE-CIX New York, the only major IX platform in the New York market Open-IX certified and one of the top neutral Internet Peering Exchange (IXPs) in the New York metro market, has added a new Point of Presence (PoP) with 1025Connect that serves as host to the easternmost peering point in the New York metro area, enabling easier access and delivery of content distributed to the ‘Continental Edge.’
If there’s one thing that is certain in today’s globalized, digital economy, it’s that having access to seamless, cost-effective connectivity has become essential for any enterprise that is serious about growing their business on a regional, national or global scale.
Infomart Data Centers recently announced that DE-CIX Dallas, the first network and data center-neutral Internet exchange in the market, is operational and available for service in its Infomart Dallas Building Meet-Me Room (BMMR) at 1950 N. Stemmons Fwy in Dallas. Customers can use this facility to further reduce latency and gain more control over routing paths via DE-CIX’s peering and interconnection services while also eliminating monthly cross-connect fees.
Connecting through Infomart Dallas’ BMMR is the fastest path to international and domestic content, network, cloud and Internet service providers (ISPs). Here, customers can gain direct access to more than 75 network carriers and all colocation customers.
DE-CIX is the first and only carrier-neutral Internet exchange in the Infomart Dallas BMMR, providing connections to multiple access points throughout the Dallas metropolitan market. In addition to DE-CIX, the BMMR houses Level 3 Communications, Unite Private Networks InnerCity FiberNet, Wirestar, Cogent Communications, FPL FiberNet and Served by the Net.
“The DE-CIX Dallas internet exchange has been well-received, enabling us to activate Infomart Dallas within six months of initial launch,” Ed d’Agostino, Vice President, DE-CIX North America Inc., recently commented. “This expansion allows more networks in the market to have easy access to our peering and interconnection fabric. Infomart’s BMMR customers are now just a cross-connect away from all networks connected to DE-CIX Dallas’ distributed peering fabric accessible across multiple data centers. Additionally, BMMR customers can leverage DE-CIX’s MetroVLAN service for private peering interconnections throughout the metro area.”
Infomart Data Centers President John Sheputis also remarked on the announcement.
“Our vision is to create an open and interconnected environment at the Infomart,” Sheputis stated. “We are enabling carriers and customers to further extend their interconnection options in what is already one of the most connected buildings in the U.S. DE-CIX Dallas plays an important part in helping us realize that vision.”
Infomart Dallas also happens to be the largest data center in Texas, and a major connectivity hub for the Southern U.S. It’s home to numerous colocation providers, as well as Infomart-operated wholesale colocation space for enterprise users that have edge connectivity requirements.
The facility was recently awarded the Management & Operations (M&O) “Stamp of Approval” certification by Uptime Institute.

Long Island is now a hotspot for colocation and connectivity, as the area is home to numerous subsea landing stations and data center providers. By connecting through Long Island, it’s possible to bypass the generally crowded Manhattan market and still access world-class connectivity services.
Just recently, for instance, 1025Connect, Long Island’s premier network-neutral Meet-Me-Room for network interconnection and colocation, announced a partnership with DE-CIX, a carrier and data center-neutral Internet exchange operator featuring multiple platforms across the U.S. as well as a distributed platform that extends across major data centers and carrier hotels throughout the New York-New Jersey market. DE-CIX also has an exchange in the Dallas, Texas metropolitan market.
DE-CIX New York has successfully completed the process of OPEN-IX certification. The DE-CIX New York Internet exchange now holds OIX-1 certification, which defines the technical requirements, minimum service levels and information-sharing provisions of participating exchanges. Certification was granted on March 9, following review and approval from the OPEN-IX Board.
DE-CIX New York has been growing rapidly since it began operations in early 2014. It is a leading exchange in the New York/New Jersey metro area, with a strong emphasis on both data center and carrier neutrality. DE-CIX New York has added more than 55 networks to its member list since last year, and its numbers continue to grow.
