“The first wave of cloud services adoption focused on improving the efficiency of the IT department,” said Frank Gens, Senior Vice President and Chief Analyst at IDC. “Over the next several years, the primary driver for cloud adoption will shift from economics to innovation.”
Service providers that support the next wave of cloud innovation must analyze their current subscription platforms to bill cloud services. It is time to determine whether these platforms are capable of taking them into the Pay-as-you-Go (PayGo) economy. Simply put, “subscription billing” is not, and will not, be sufficient enough to bill complex innovations developed from combining cloud services from multiple providers on a measured, PayGo pricing/billing plan.
