FiberLight, LLC, a fiber infrastructure provider with more than 20 years of construction experience building mission-critical, high-bandwidth networks, announces the release of its newest case study: ‘Improving K-12 Education in Amarillo, TX.’
Featuring a deployment completed for the Amarillo Independent School District (AISD), this case study discusses bandwidth and connectivity challenges that educational institutions are currently facing as they look to support enhanced security and digital learning opportunities and explores a cost-efficient, robust network solution.
Due to changes in the Texas State Legislature funding, AISD’s existing network service charges were increasing from $14,000 per month for 1Gbps connections to almost half a million. With its existing infrastructure, bandwidth and on-site hosting capabilities were limiting the district’s ability to offer students new digital learning capabilities and support additional security deployments, among other requirements.
To meet these evolving network demands, FiberLight was chosen to deploy a 70-mile dark fiber network expansion that empowers AISD with greater control, enhanced security and high-capacity connectivity. With the FCC’s Category 1 E-rate program and the Texas State Legislature’s matching funds, the dark fiber network buildout was 100 percent subsidized, and 80 percent of the equipment was covered as well.
