PacnetThe network plays a critical role in the modern business world, delivering the very technologies and applications that enable organizations to operate. However, as these technologies and applications grow more advanced, so too must the networks that support them.

Recognizing the network’s need to evolve, leading APAC integrated technology solutions provider Pacnet places a focus on network virtualization in 2015, changing the way today’s networks are ordered and provisioned. Following its 100G network upgrade, Hybrid Cloud enablement within its interconnected data center network, and the release and enhancement of Pacnet Enabled Network (PEN), the company recently revealed its next steps for network virtualization. PEN is a Software-Defined Networking (SDN)-based Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) platform supporting on-demand bandwidth delivery within minutes via customized graphical user interface (GUI).

Pacnet is taking network virtualization to the optical layer. With this new capability, Pacnet enhances flexibility and scalability for customers through the development of a virtualized transport network which enables speedy capacity provisioning and automated fault restoration across the company’s wholly-owned, 100G-enabled trans-Pacific and intra-Asia submarine network.

Compounding its introduction of flexibility and scalability into the optical layer, Pacnet will continue to foster the development of Hybrid Cloud and Private Network to Public Cloud Service exchanges by establishing partnerships with leading cloud providers including Amazon Web Services.

Pacnet discussed these game-changing innovations and more as a Gold sponsor at PTC’15: Networked Planet, which took place January 18-21, 2015 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort in Honolulu, HI.  Bringing together senior executives in telecommunications, IT and a variety of related industries, the conference explored next-generation networking including core data transport, machine-to-machine (M2M), social networking, Big Data and distributed queries, and the Internet of Things (IoT) as well as submarine cables, satellite networks, terrestrial and mobile services, and more.

Jim Fagan PTC'15During the PTC’15, Pacnet’s President of Managed Services, Jim Fagan, delivered an industry briefing titled Building a “Cloudified” Network. Mr. Fagan explored how Cloud adoption has been rapidly changing IT architectures around the world, and how the underlying network that links these services has been slow to catch up. He will also discuss how advancements in SDN and NFV are enabling on-demand delivery of bandwidth a
nd network functions such as routing, firewall, application acceleration, resulting in new revenue opportunities and more agile networking environments.

Andy Lumsden PTC'15Pacnet’s CTO, Andy Lumsden, also spoke on Executive Insight Roundtable 3 – Putting the Bounce into Submarine Cable, discussing creating elastic submarine networks for cloud networking. The session explored the operational efficiencies and speed to service gained by unifying provisioning of a router service and on-demand transport bandwidth via a single user interface.
