Each year, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) presents its Communications Quality & Reliability (CQR) Chairman’s Award to a recipient with sustained contributions in the field of quality, reliability and security of communications services, networks or systems. The candidate must also demonstrate that he or she adds value to others, and consistently acts like a role model.
This year, the IEEE — which is the world’s largest professional organization for advancing technology for the benefit of humanity — presented the CQR 2017 Chairman’s Award to Mr. H. Brian Thompson, who is founder and executive chairman of the board at GTT Communications, Inc (NYSE: GTT).
Mr. Thompson was presented this award for designing and implementing telecommunications technologies that dramatically improve access to quality global communications systems. The award was also given to Mr. Thompson for his lifelong commitment to mentoring and advising others, and for his strong business savvy which has helped to steer the digital revolution. The recipient has a distinguished background as an entrepreneur, and telecommunications leader.
In addition to his role at GTT, the leading global cloud networking provider to multinational clients, Mr. Thompson has worked at LCI International, MCI, Qwest and Comsat International. He also sits on multiple boards and committees, including the Irish prime minister’s Ireland-America Economic Advisory Board and the Executive Committee of the Global Information Infrastructure Commission.
“I am honored to be recognized with the IEEE CQR 2017 Chairman’s Award,” stated Mr. Thompson. “This accolade is a testament to the shared vision of my colleagues and peers as we continue to work together to evolve our industry, improve and expand infrastructure, and address the dynamic regulatory environment to deliver innovative communication services to people and organizations on a global basis.”
This award was presented on May 17, during the IEEE CQR 2017 event at the Naples Beach Resort and Golf Club.
