Achieving Indoor Air Quality in Gaming Environments
A casino that permits cigarette smoking can become a vexatious source of unpleasant odors, deterring existing and returning customers, and creating a health hazard to the facility’s employees.
For this reason, there is a strong need for indoor air quality (IAQ) control solutions from providers like Plasma Air International. Just recently, Plasma Air helped the Hogansburg, New York-based Akwesane Mohawk Casino Resort (AMCR), a member of the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe gaming enterprise, to achieve a healthier indoor air environment with its bipolar ionization technology.
By deploying Plasma Air’s solution, AMCR was able to reduce the total amount of cigarette smoke in its casino, which significantly improved IAQ for both the smoking and non-smoking sections of its 130,000-square-foot facility. In fact, AMCR experienced a 24 percent reduction in smoking complaints from its patrons and eliminated the need to install a walled-in smoking section. What’s more, by working with Plasma Air, AMCR avoided having to undergo any large capital expenses, and was even able to take advantage of free maintenance for the full term of its lease.
Plasma Air International uses breakthrough bipolar ionization technology to enhance the IAQ of commercial, residential and institutional buildings. Its products eliminate pollutants like smoke, odors and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). Plasma Air uses the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Standard 62.1 IAQ Procedure to reduce the amount of outside air intake that is required for a facility, thereby reducing air conditioning, heating equipment sizes and energy consumption.
“At AMCR, customer satisfaction is at the heart of our business, so when the odors and health hazards of second-hand smoke became a growing concern for many of our patrons, we knew we had to take action,” stated Shannon Keel, CEO and General Manager, Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort. “After installing the Plasma Air system, there was an immediate and significant reduction in odor complaints.”
Plasma Air President Larry Sunshine also commented on the success of the project.
“We are delighted to hear of the incredible results AMCR has achieved from the installation of our cutting-edge air purification system,” Sunshine said. “Our customers’ success is our success, and we look forward to continuing to work with AMCR in the years to come.”
